Default Difference between two Model 66's

There are 2 model 66's on Gunbroker. One is a 66-1 from 1979 and the other is a 66-4 from 1993. The 66-4 is new in the box, while the 66-1 is supposed to be in excellent condition. But the 66-1 is up to $1,000 and the 66-4 is "only" at $800. Why would the used gun be selling for so much more than the brand new one?

The 66-1 would be more desirable to the collector market because of the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. There is more interest in revolvers that have these features. Not saying that one would shoot better than the other, they just attract more attention. IMHO.

BUT the M-66-4 has the endurance package introduced with the M-66-3 and is a more desirable gun for the shooter.

The difference in price also probably reflects greed and what the seller thinks he can get.

I wouldn't pay over $500 for any M-66, and I'd insist on at least NRA Excellent condition, although I'm not too adamant about a box. However, I am prepared to walk many miles at gun shows until I achieve that goal.

It is ALWAYS best to actually inspect a gun before purchase.
