Smile Help with J Frame Mod 37 38 Spl Airweight

First i want to say Thank You and I Love this Forum , you all are Very knowledgeable and helpful and again, if im posting in the wrong section, my apologies ( i will get the hang of it )

Here is the other revolver im trying to get some info on (year it was made, is it a common gun and value)

Barrel marked AIRWEIGHT 38 SPL CTG

Inside Cylinder MOD-37 and below that is 36612

Number on butt is 168xxx

No box and the original grips I cannot find

Looks like between 1958-62 going by the number on the butt.That is the serial #. In 1969 the serial # started with a J.

I would guess between $400-$500. If those grips are real pearl, they are worth $150-$200 themselves.

The most certain way is to request a factory letter. It will give you the exact date your revolver left the factory and to whom it was shipped. But it will cost you $50. You can call the Historian's Office at Smith & Wesson, and they will give you the year, maybe the month.

My best guess on yours would be 1960, maybe 1961. The serial numbers hit 295xxx in early 1962. I know that one numbered 3538xx left the factory in September, 1964. Nice looking Airweight, in any case. Thanks for posting.

Nice little M37, Tina. That $50 letter from Mr. Jinks would also tell you if the pearl grips were original.

Hi Retired,
They are not original, i bought them at one of the local guns shows a couple years ago and put em on (just love that look)
