I have a 3 screw J Frame, flat latch, diamond grips matched to serial #, 1 7/8 bbl., Serial #111XXX, steel frame. Inside the frame and on the cylinder yoke is stamped 37 092. The 37 stamp is larger than the 092. My understanding would be that the 37 is the model number. Called S&W on Friday, research dept. said it was manufactured in 1956. When I told him it was stamped 37 he said that was impossible, no steel frame 37's were ever made. Is it possible that I have a mis-marked 36? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
