Unhappy Model 15-3 Rescue

I just rescued a Modle 15-3 form a guy that had no business with a firearm. It is in bad shape. I am going to try to salvage it or put it to rest. The ser# is K921469 can anyone tell me the age and is there any real value. When I bought it I thought I read Model 14-3 but after getting it home and under good light and a magnifying glass I saw that it was a Model 15-3. Disapointed to say the least.

How bad? My Smith book is packed right now so I can't help with dating. The resaon I ask is that I have a soft spot for beaters. It's like taking in abandoned dogs. Usually they make the best friends.

I'm like you. I went to buy this gun but when I saw how badly it had been treated I just could not let hem take it back home.

It is realy not that bad. The hammer and triger show a lot of rust. I don't know what I will do about that? The cylender has almost all the bluing gone it looks a dull gray with a little rust. I think 0000 steel wool will get that. The rest of the gun has several dots of rust that feel like pits. The bore look very good. It is going to require some soaking and cleaning but I like to do that. I think the project is going to be fun.

Model 15s have 2" or 4" bbls and 14s have 6" or 83/8" bbls, unless someone did some cutting.

S&M manufactured the m 15-3 from 1967 to 1977. It has to fall somewhere between there. I know because I called them.

I just rescued one myself. I paid $50.00. It was hella dirty on the inside but cleaned up pretty good. The bore and cylinders look excellent. There are blemishes here and there on the barrel and frame but nothing horrible except for the side plate which has a rather large spot of corrosion over the logo and another just over the trigger. If I can find the side plate its going to be in decent shape and the blemmishes will only add character.

Hope you do well with yours!
