Help me decide on a 25-2
Looking at a model 25-2 in excellent condition (98%+), pinned barrel, like new target grips, serial #N7121xx. No box or papers but does have the tool set. I know this gun has basically been a safe queen since the late 80's so it hasn't been shot very much. Asking price was higher, but will sell it for $600. I have large hands, like these big ol N frames, and I'm guessing this is about close to fair market value....not a particularly good deal but not a ripoff either. What do you guys think?

Wasn't sure which thread was the better fit, but went with this one.....guessing it was made in '79 or '80?

Looks like it shipped in 1980. $600 is a very good price as described.
What, you're still logged on?! Go and get it!

Got it! Been cleaning it up and it looks good so far. Hope to get some photos up tomorrow. I do have a question about the trigger pull. It has been a long time since handling a N frame and I don't remember if the triggers were substantially different from the K and L frames. The single action pull is decent, but when cocking it there is a rough, heaviness just before it locks. Double action somewhat the same.....not bad until near the end when there is grittiness and extra resistance. Also feels and sounds a little mechanical and harsh when the hammer drops. Don't if any of that makes sense or comes close to describing what is happening, but I would like to hear any thoughts or suggestions.

Congratulations. Sounds like a wiener. I do like the feeling of a mild 45 thru an n frame.

Unless I missed it, I didn't see a barrel length mentioned...what kind of pipe is that revolver sporting? I've got a beauty with a 6-1/2" that I picked up for a little more than you paid. I think you got a great deal on a great N-frame. Enjoy!

There should be no roughness in the action. It most likely has debris or caked oil in the action. A thorough cleaning should take care of it. If you don't feel comfortable in taking the side plate off, have someone who is knowledgable help you..

I've have one since 1984 and would never part with it. That said, it comes out of the safe once or twice a year, while the K-38 and other K frames get shot all the time.

Definite roughness and increased weight towards the end of the DA pull......SA seems ok but trigger return is kind of clunky and jerky....not smooth at all. Trigger almost feels like it wants to hang up on return. I don't feel comfortable removing the side plate. Guess I need to find a good pistolsmith. On the positive side it has cleaned up great and looks very nice.

I'd be willing to take it off your hands since the trigger is so rough and clunky.

Sorry rockable. Actually the trigger seems to be improving....may have just needed some lube and shooting. The 25-2 shot great though and will try to post photos soon.
Should be finding out more tomorrow about a group of nice revolvers coming up for sale that supposedly includes a model 25-2 in presentation box. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll let you know the details when I find out for sure. I can't afford another one right now.
