Default Shooting the Skeeter Skelton 25-2 in .45 Colt

Here's the gun Skeeter Skelton had built by the Factory back in 1963. Four inch barrel, 3 T's in .45 Colt. Shown with a set of "shooter" grips, it normally wears it's original set of diamond targets. Currently in the Jim Fisher collection, a local Montana boy kind enough to let a couple of retired Montana Troopers shoot it.

http://smith-wessonforum.com/swca-me...s-45-colt.html

Hopefully the above link will allow all of you to see Jim's post regarding his gun. This is the rest of the story , with the Factory letter and some back story on the gun

Fellow SWCA member , HeloMT firing the 25-2.

Your's truly letting off a shot.

Randy and gun owner Jim Fisher afterwards.

Thanks again Jim from both of us for letting us handle and SHOOT such a rare and notable piece of S&W History. To a Skeeter Skelton fan as both a kid and later as a young cop it was especially memorable for me.

The gun will be displayed at the upcoming NRA Show. And is part of a larger display of rare revolvers belonging to Jim and his lovely wife Judy.

Default Lucky Guys

I was up in Montana visiting mom and dad a couple of months ago. That's when he first showed me the Skeeter gun. I even helped him with some of the items in the display, But I haven't got to shoot it yet.
Thanks for posting the pictures, I too enjoy my time when I get to visit. Except dad usually puts me to work instead of playing with rare revolvers.
My brother, his son and I will also be at the NRA show in Houston. Come and visit and see some remarkable guns in person.

It was great seeing the pictures of you firing that revolver and even more great of Jim to unselfishly share his collection with the rest of us by doing so many of the displays at the various shows and meetings. He is one of the reasons I joined the S&W collectors after visiting with Jim at an NRA convention where he and his lovely wife displayed their collection. All my best, Joe.

Deaf Smith County was where l shot my first prairie dog in 1998. l shot with a DPS agent who also ran pd hunts on the side. Being a fellow lover of S&W handguns we talked quite a bit on the subject. l remember him saying once he knew of Skeeter and had also read some of his stuff. 0ne of my most memorable moments shooting with lsaac came on our first hunt. Spotting for me we spied a rather large bird sitting near one of my recent kills. He said, "Bob, thats a Red Tail Hawk. lf he gets shot by accident or on purpose l will have to arrest you and there will be no refund for the hunt". What struck me in addition to the friendly warning was the dry almost emotionless tone of his voice.
l have shot pds in that area 4 times from Plainview to Stratford until 2006 when plague killed most of the priarie dogs. l love Skeeter's Country and hear the dogs are back in good numbers. Maybe its time for another trip to to Deaf Smith County

Hi
Here is one of the targets we shoot. I agree this is the best shooting 45 colt I have owned.
It will shoot better than most people can hold.

Excellent article - thanks! OK...any other fellow ol'farts out there remember this?

I think about 1970...and think G&A or Shooting Times..Skeeter detailed the transformation of a ratty old 1st Gen Colt SAA he found somewhere on the US-Mexican border. Was BP-frame piece. He cleaned up the internals, installed adjustable sights and a brass or silver-plated grip frame, King mirrored front sight/Micro rear, new barrel and cylinder in .45 Colt. Was a masterpiece when it was done.

Who beside me has a memory of this?

You can count me and tennexplorer among the old f--ts that read that article.

BTW, it was Shooting Times magazine. Skeeter was the Handgun Editor for ST.

The main thing I remember about that story was that Skeeter chose to polish the sides of the hammer, rather than try to recaseharden it as there was a 50% loss rate.............

I think I remember that article. Unusual in that I mostly read G&A. Skeeter was a good read. And I would buy ST from the rack.

Great to be able to handle, let alone get to shoot a piece of
history like that. Someday i hope to be able to meet Jim and
shake his hand. He is one of the reasons i joined this Forum.
Always great info and pictures of our beloved S&W's from
Jim. Keep up the good work and fellowship.

Chuck
