For $265 you can use it as a door stop, although we know how good of a shooter it will be!
Good buy!

I looked at that one earlier in the week and again yesterday. I was going to offer $250 out the door but it was a little more freckled than I wanted. But it was nice and tight and had matching grips. That's the same store I got my like new 15-3 a few weeks back for $315 OTD. You did good at that price. It will make a great truck gun!

I found a nice one a few months back at a pawn shop with target grips on it! Decent shape and I have standard grips to replace the targets with. Shoots good too!

Figured you did! I did the same... probably should have offered a little less, but it was pretty tight and I bought it with the intention of shooting / carrying and the finish was torn up enough for me not to worry MUCH about dings.

Looks like a good deal to me. I'd have snapped it up as that would be a killer price around here.

Not speaking for phatmax, but for myself.
I have several guns similar to that. Notably, a 1948 vintage K-22 that was freckled pretty badly, but, as in the case of phatmax's Model 10, improved considerably with a little effort. I gave $325 otd for it, I think, a few years ago. At the time, a K-22 of that vintage in 90% condition would have cost somewhere in the $500-$600 range. There is always the temptation to "make it really nice" with a refinish. What are we talking, here, minimum of $200 for the refin, plus at least $50 shipping two ways? Suddenly, I have nearly $600 in a gun that is still worth $450 at most, because it isn't original. I bought it as a shooter in the first place. To me, refinishing a gun like that just doesn't make sense. Shoot the hound out of it, as they say down here, and enjoy it without worrying about a scratch or two.

I picked up a 2" Round Butt 10-5 yesterday. No corrosion under the grips. Blue wear at the muzzle, and on the back strap. Locks up fine. It is just rough enough for everyday carry. I have a 2" Square Butt 15-5 that is too clean to carry. A call it my Barbecue Gun.
I paid a LOT more than your $285 for the 10-5 snub I picked up. This is the first Model 10 Snub I have ever seen in a store in my area.
In my area S&W revolvers have dryed up totally on the shelf.
The last gun show I went to had 5 S&W Revolvers. Two were beater 60's marked at $600 each. I also saw 3 used 686-4's No snubs among them, I think one was a 4", a 6" and an 8-3/8. Probably some one collecting 686-4's. All were priced $250 - $300 over what most of us would consider to be a Top Price for a clean desirable 686-4. I would have liked to have had the 4", but I am not giving $900 for one worth $600. I wish I could find some of the bargain prices some of you come up with. In my area I am paying about double what some of you are for revolvers.
I am not sure if the 2" Snub I bought has a spring set in it or not. It may just be the triggers were that much better back then. I will run this one by to see the Old Master Himself, Ron Power one of these days and have him check it out and chamfer the chambers. This one will be a combination concealed carry and BUG Match revolver. I have been looking for a K Snub for BUG Matches. I have a custom open top pancake holster on order from Rocky Hill Leather. Mine is next on the list. I got an e-mail from him this morning, and I will watch him build it this evening. I ordered it for the 15 snub, but you can bet it will see much more use packing the Model 10 snub around.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I plan to enjoy mine. I plan on shooting mine a lot. I like shooting 38's that is the reason my 550 Dillon stays set up to load 38 Specials, and the reason that I have several coffee cans of 38 brass.
Bob

phatmax, that cleaned up very nicely. and looks like it will be a great shooter grade revolver. I understand why the the back strap of so many revolvers show bluing loss but I never understood why the bottom of the trigger guard on so many revolvers gets so worn looking .

You managed that with steel wool?!?! Wow.
Could you detail your methods please?
Very nice revolver and you guys better appreciate your LGS owner - he seems to have missed inflation for at least the last 15 years.

Stripped the gun, including the hammer and trigger. Cleaned it completely and then hit it with Powder Blast to strip oils off.
Used fresh 0000 steel wool and tried to stay with the grain of the metal. Kept flipping it as I rubbed.
The backstrap had some sort of polyurethane on it which came off and the metal under was in great shape.
Then sprayed it off again to get the steel dust off and then replaced all the parts and oiled it up.
