Welcome to the forum!
Sorry about your dad.
I hope it's cathartic to talk about the situation.
My 2 cents: make your decision and write it down with the date. Put it aside. Then wait six months or a year. Pick it back up. If you make the same decision then do that. If you make a different decision, then repeat the process until your mind is 'settled'.

Mixed emotions are very understandable at such a time. Keep the gun, maybe out of sight, for at least a couple of years, then see how you feel about it.

Hello all, I haven't checked in for a couple of years, but I still have the Chief's Special. It's been safely stored and still looks like the photos in this post. I have had an interesting way to narrow down the sell/don't sell thing.
I have three kids
-Oldest daughter is pretty anti-gun ownership, although she does ask me to take her to the range when she is in town.
-Youngest son probably just should not own a gun. Smart kid, but his ADD gets in the way of common sense a lot
So I think I will just ask my middle boy if it is something he would like to have and keep for posterity as a sort of family heirloom. If it's not something he wants to take responsibility for, I'll probably sell it.
I have enjoyed re-reading this thread, and thank you all again for your input.

Approximate date of mfg?
Does anyone have an approximation of the date this M36 (no dash) was made? I believe it was about 1968, but might be off by a year or two.
J48*** is the serial #
Thanks

Most likely late 1969 or early 1970.

Thank you for your help.
BTW tlawler,, my dad was on the USS Pope in WWII; he was part of the capture of the U505, the only U-Boat ever captured, still on display at the Chicago Maritime Museum.
