Default A six shot snubby not a model 10 what is it?

I recently saw a snub nose 6 shooter with a round butt which looked like a model 10, but was told it wasn't. I couldn't get close enough to open the crane and look, but it appeared to be a k frame.

Three possibilities - a .38 Military & Police (before it was named the model 10 and not stamped); a .38 Airweight or model 12; or not an S & W.

Not enough info

If they told you it was'nt a model 10, why did you not simply ask "What is it?"

A 2" could be an old M&P, it could be a model 12 if it had an alloy frame, if it was a 3" it could be a model 13, if it had adjustable sights it could be a 15. if it was stainless it could be a 64

probably others that are not coming to mind yet

I didn't want to appear to interested as someone else seemed mildly interested. It was not a M&P, I have two of those. The front sight was a ramp, like a 10. K frame size. a 12 would fit, but I wasn't close enough to see if the frame had that high gloss jet black look.

A model 12 or per- model 12 should have "airweight" stamped on the barrel. A fixed-sight blue k-frame 38 should be a 10 or 12 (or pre-10 or 12).

I don't think the shape of the front sight determines the base model.
Unless one of the adjustable sighted guns mentioned, a 2" six shot .38 special is a Military & Police. Just that they have made a lot of different variations over the years.
