Brand New 29-2!
I found this locally, SN N19500, probably late 1971! Absolutely NIB, but there is one very tiny handling mark on the left side of the barrel. Whaddaya think, shoot it or safe queen? . It goes very nicely with the rest of my 70s show...I'll try to get some better pics up soon.....

I'd safe queen it unless I had a use for it other than range.
Like hunting? Or I have Pre 29 4" I'll carry sometimes.
And very nice find

I've got a 6" 629-4 that has been my woods gun for a while. There is something mighty special about that 6 1/2" blue gun though!

If you don't shoot it you're just warehousing it for the next guy.

I would safe queen it myself.
I've got plenty of shooters.
You can't un-shoot it later.

I'd shoot it. I traded for an unfired 75' vintage model 57 in the presentation case with all the paperwork and tools. I shoot all my guns as I am more a shooter than a collector! But that's just me. I think I can easily get more than what I have in it so I'm okay with that. Nice find though.

Very nice find and I would have a hard time shooting that one ! If I got the urge, I would just drag out one of my other Model 29/629's and call it even!

Thanks Tony, that seems to be the consensus, and probably what I'll do, till I can't stand it any more anyways! It is awful purty, ain't it?

I found one LNIB except for a slight ring on the cylinder. Other than factory proofing it had not been fired until I got it. I took it to the range. But then I looked for one to use, in nice weather anyway as I have a 6.5 and 4" 629's for woods carry.

I too have a LNIB 29-2 mine is from 1975. It looks like one of those shot 6 and put away guns. I am going to play with it at the range only. I have a 29-3 and 629-4 that are woods guns. If you decide not to shoot it, staring at it and fondling it is not a bad thing either.

I'm guessing this one was built in 1971, estimating from my SCSW. Same year the first movie came out! Serial number is N19500. . I get the impression it's harder to find those particular holsters than it is to find a great 29!

A10,
That is just too nice to bugger up. I`d either safe queen it or I`d trade it for two shooters .

I use all of my firearms, so no safe queens here. If I was worried about boogering it up, I'd trade it for something to launch bullets with.

I found a 1921 silver quarter, so I put it in a parking meter.

I got a 6&1/2" S Frame at the B'ham gun show last month. Unfortunately,no box, tools or papers,BUT it is pristine!I wanted a "S" frame to go with the rest of my 29 collection and I wanted it to be a woods gun,but this is too nice for that. Now I'm in the same position as A10[OP]. What I finally have decided is to keep the "Old Girl" for very light duty[range, no holstering, etc.] and find a 5" 629 full lug to beat the woods with.[anyone having a "shooter" 5" 629 PM me please]BTW:The Ardolino[Andolinos'?]The Original Lawman Leather holster makers apparently left Nevada after some spurious[?] business practices and move to Texas. Apparently, they[the father and son]are doing the same trick accepting the money but delivering no goods. Too bad 'cause it was a good design, well executed back then.Search the thread here for 1960-1981 guns, I believe I posted some info on them about a month ago in that thread. Nick

Good score A10. With proper care and feeding, you can use it as an occasional shooter with no worries.

That's a nice one but they we're made to be shot.
You a shooter or collector ?
Your gun, your choice.
If it we're mine it would be cared for but it sure would
get taken to the range.
Congrats on the purchase !!!

1. Your gun, do want you want with it.
2. I shoot my guns. I don't buy things I won't use. If I had a dollar for every NIB gun that I took to the range... I could almost buy another one to try out.
3. I don't ask others what I should do with my guns.
See, this is why I shouldn't post.

If it has been previously fired then there is no harm in shooting it and cleaning it to be placed back in the box. If it has never been fired, then no sense in shooting it and taking down from its value. Place it in a safe and let it appreciate in value.

Brand new gun! Unfired, no turn line, absolutely pristine. Truth is I negotiated the price down a goodly amount, and swapped a gun he wanted for the majority of that price. I love a good trade! With what my actual investment is, the only way I'd loose money on it would be if I threw away all the goodies and electropenciled my name into the side. Even at that, I'd about break even...... (I know, now I'm just bragging......)

It comes down to if you think of yourself as a gun investor [I don't], whether you have more guns than you have time for and if this 29-2 is your best gun to use in one of the shooting sports you participate in.
The $253 I paid for my first 29-2 new in 1975 would have bought an acre of land in my area. Compare the price of that acre to what your 29-2 is worth today and its clear that as an investment guns stink.
I wouldn't buy a gun that I thought I'd never have fun shooting but my WSP Commemorative remains unfired, so I can't fault you to badly for not firing your 29-2. However, I think we'd both get more out of the money we spent if took them to the range.

That is a beauty of a 29! I too am in the shoot it club. I can't /wont justify owning a piece that I don't shoot, rather spend my money on better things, like ammo

A couple of years ago a local shop got hold of a bunch of Colt Government Model 1911s manufactured in 1951 that were still in the box and had never been fired. Absolutely beautiful gun from when American firearm manufacturers were at their very best. I bought one. I take it to the range once a week whether I need to or not. My apologies to the next owner who will get his hands on it after I'm dead but I get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from shooting this work of art, and cleaning it too. I also enjoy shooting my very clean 29-2 with its 6 and a half inch barrel...also a work of art in my opinion
