Question Information Wanted on a .38 Special

I have a smith and wesson 38 special ctg serial number on butt d258752 can you give me some info aboutit?

Your gun dates to around 1970 and is a "Military and Police" revolver, which is a fixed sight K frame. You can determine the specific model by swinging open the cylinder and reading the model number that's stamped in the frame cut. It's either a Model 10-5 (standard barrel), 10-6 (heavy barrel), or a 12-2 (aluminum frame M&P Airweight).

The frame marking will look something like this:

Thank you for the info. The gun was my uncle,s who passed away. It is a10-5 there are some numbers also on the swing out cylinder is 60098. The barrel measures 5inches any idea on how much it is worth? Only been fired a few times and is in good condition. do appreciate your help .

Depending on its exact condition it is probably worth $350-400.

If you shoot at all, your 10-5 is a great revolver to hang onto. My 10-5 is a four-inch, and I love it. It's my primary home defense gun.
