Local seller has a 27-2 8-3/8 barrel w/ presentation box in excellent condition for sale.. How ever it has a white insert installed rather than the red insert. I'm not familiar with this. Could this be a special order from the factory or was it probably installed after???? Check out the pics. Thanks to all and a belated Happy Father's Day....... Sorry about the double dip on box and papers.......
I have a similar white insert in the front sight of my 5" Model 27-2. Maybe a few others will chime in with more info. It appears they didn't make too many of them!
Do you know if your 27-2 came with the white front sight from S&W??? Thanks.........

Long barrel 27-2s normally shipped with a plain black Patridge front sight. The visible pin holding the front sight on the ramp suggests the Patridge was replaced, either before or after it left the factory. From what I see of the package, it would not really matter to me at all. I would just buy it and check later.
I bought the 27 used and don't know if it is factory or not, but the front sight appears otherwise to be stock. I've seen 1 or 2 others in the past on other models.
I once bought a used Model 29 with a white insert in the front ramp exactly like the standard red ramp. The seller told me he had returned the gun to S&W for refinish and asked for the white insert. I thought it possible his story could be a little sales baloney but when I received it the gun did have a service date stamped on the frame and the R-S stamp. When the gun came to me it was pretty well finish-worn again and the white insert showed evidence of having wear from use that would correspond with the finish wear on the rest of the revolver. So I would guess the seller's story probably was true.
