Default Model 36 .38 special question

Hi can you tell me when my model 36 was made and what its worth? It reads J472658 on the bottom and has MOD 36 stamped inside the cylinder also a stamp under that reading 98634 and under that D13. Its in great shape just a small wear spot on the cylinder.

J472658 shipped sometime 1976-77. The 98634 and D13 are assembly #s, used internally during the build and have no meaning now. Without pictures to see the actual condition, I'll throw out about $400 +/-, based on your description.

As DAinTX said, the frame was numbered sometime around 76-77. My understanding is that a letter from the company will tell you when it actually shipped out as a finished gun. It costs money to have them do this research, though. Most people would assess your gun as a mid to late 70's model 36 and call it good. Enjoy your S&W.

400 bucks sounds spot on to me.
