How much is my 38 special 15-3 worth?
I have a smith & Wesson 38 special model 15-3 with a serial number of 15k1794 and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the year and how much it was worth, please.

1977. Try to post some pictures. People here can help with that. Value depends to a large extent on condition, so without pictures it's just a swag.

It's in good condition, I was trying to sell it to a friend, and this friend was with someone else who buys and sells guns, and this guy told him it was in good condition and now this guy is trying to buy it from me, but I don't want to until I know its worth, because I don't want him to cheat me, he wants it bad, and is trying to pressure me to sell it now.

One down side is that the grips have been replaced with the rubber ones. I wouldn't start at a nickel less than $500, maybe a bit more.
How much is he offering you for it?

He was trying to get it from me for $400, I am trying to sell it for $550. Thank you so much for your help. I didn't want him or anyone else to get over on me. Everyone I show it to wants it but so far no one has the money to buy it. Have one more person to show it to in a few hours. So yes, thank you if this guy don't but it I wont back down on the price. Thank you for your help.

This is the same revolver I used for 28 years with the KC,MO. Police Dept. just before they switched to the semi auto's. I am strictly a revolver guy. 28 years carrying the same revolver became part of me and I felt like I wasn't wearing my under shorts when I did not have it with me. Lost it in a motor home crash off a MO Ozark mountain when it went over that 708 ft cliff I was behind the wheel all the way to the bottom. It exploded in flames, lost my right leg and was burnt. But I got out of it and crawled to the top to be rescued, dragging that mangled leg behind. I am in a power-chair now and 62 in one month. I had oversized rosewood grips. We had to re-qualify every three months at the KC,MO. PD. range. I kept an average of 98 score wit that Model 15-3. People don't believe me when I tell them I never had to use it during my entire career with them. But it burnt up in the motor-home and I finally found one just cleaned and redone by S & W. I paid $449.00 for this one and it was a bargain. Try to find on the net or a gun store and they run up to $800.00 to $900.00. Everybody wants to have a Model 10 or 15. Only difference is the 15 has the rear adjustable sight.

There is a cool local shop that has a 15-3 BNIB for 550. It is worrying me at night.

I agree RussellD. They have saved many Law Enforcement Officers lives with their accuracy and dependability.

That's because he thinks you are desperate to sell it. It is the gold standard of revolvers and the price of them keep going up daily. Stick to your comfortable selling price and "never allow" anyone talk you into coming down on any S & W revolver. Check out the prices on S & W's revolvers and see. Many are going for over $1,000.

I paid $400.00 for this 1965 Model 15-2 earlier this year. That amount wouldn't touch it now. It's got one or two imperfections on it, but hell, it's 48 years old. Don't we all?

I traded a well used Glock 23 for this 15-3 a couple of weeks ago. This one is number four in my safe. You can't beat the Model 15 for accuracy and just plain shooting fun.

My "Karma" Nickle 15-4
My Karma was working overtime back in July of '93 when I was on my way home from business in San Jose and just needed a Reality break. So I stopped in a small gun store in Gilroy, Ca. While walking around inside I saw a guy come in with a package and approach the counter. He had his Grandmother's gun for sale, on consignment, as she was going into assisted living. I listened as they talked and when the guy left I told the owner I was interested.
The upshot is that I bought this on the spot for $266.21. It just misses 100% by a tiny bit of holster wear at the muzzle because Grandma kept it loaded in a holster on her nightstand.

To put it lightly, I was ecstatic!!
