Price check:Model 57 8 3/8" "S" prefix in clamshell presentation case
What would you guys pay for a MINT S&W model 57 with a 8 3/8" barrel in the correct clamshell presentation case?
EDIT TO ADD:This is the last "S" prefix model 57 I need for my collection,I have a first year 4" and 6".

What about $1,650 shipped? Do you guys think that is too high? I have been told the 8 3/8" "S" Prefix guns are harder to find becuase they came out later than the 4" and 6" guns.

I'd buy it especially if I had the other two

If actually mint, correct stocks, case in good shape - yes. And without too much hesitation.

I paid $2,000 for one just like you describe about two years ago, so I would buy it for that price. Mine was shipped in 1966 and is 99+%.

Alex - the "mint" cokes and clamshell case are worth close to 1K by themselves

It does not have Cokes on it,It has a really nice set of GA Diamond Targets. The gun is from 1967 and my research has shown that the 8 3/8" M57's from this era where shipped with Diamond Targets. If anyone has any info on this I would appreciate it.

Bill will be the expert on that. FWIW, I have a friend with a 4-inch gun from that era that came with diamond targets. I believe his gun is in the S25xxxx range but I do not have my notebook handy so cannot say for sure. I'll check in a bit. Sounds possible to me.

Your model 57 is a "S" serial number prefix gun from the 60's and it is NIB? I would LOVE to see a picture of that!

Is your M57 in a clamshell presentation case or a velour lined case?

Diamond target stocks appeared on the Model 29/57 as early as February 1966. Below is a photo of my long barreled Model 57 that was shipped on July 1, 1966. I know some Model 57s with an 8 3/8-inch barrel were shipped in a velour lined case. I saw a case at the S&WCA meeting in Kansas City in June.
The second photo is of a Model 57 that was shipped in August 1965 in a "transition case". It is lined with blue satin (like the older Model 29 cases) and the inserts are the same as those used in the velour lined cases. I guess S&W ran out of velour. This revolver also has the lowest serial number known for a Model 57, S230000 range.

My friend's Model 57 with the diamond targets is in the the low 250,000 range - S251xxx. Since the gun is otherwise "mint," I'd bet the diamond targets are OE on the gun mentioned by the OP.
Thanks for the "new to me" info, Bill. I did not realize the DT grips were shipping that early. I wonder if they were also shipping on Model 29s post Feb-66, or if that came somewhat later?

Diamond target stocks were used on both models beginning in 1966 (the February revolver I was referring to is a Model 29-2).

I'd buy it, especially so it'll compliment the others.

Thanks for all the help guys,I am tying up the deal as we speak.I will be sure and make a new thread when the gun arrives. In the pictures the gun looks every bit as nice as the one Doc44 posted. This will complete my S prefix M57 collection,My next task will be getting a Velour presentation case for my 6" so all three will be 100% complete.
