Default New purchase of a 5" Model 27-2 and a refurbish/rebuild of a presentation case

This 27-2 was advertised earlier this month on an auction site as a 4" but I could tell it was a 5" and I had been wanting one for quite a while. So I went ahead and did the "Buy it now" and probably paid too much for it ($725 + shipping). Well it arrived on July 16th in a presentation case that was not listed in the auction. The presentation case was really beat up on the outside and the inside was falling apart. I had sent a presentation case to Joe Cebull earlier this year and was really impressed with his work on it and thought about sending this one to him also. But I decided to try it on my own. Ten days later I was done with the case and polishing on the 27-2 and was very happy with the outcome. I dressed it up with a pair of targets and used Ren wax on the gun. The presentation case was literally falling apart so I had to take it apart and rebuild it, filled the severe gouges, did some sanding, and then stained it. My next project on it is to take off the nonworking aftermarket front night sight and put in a red insert. Maybe then it'll be worth the $750 I have invested in it.

After

First I soaked it in warm water and soap and used a medium sized nylon brush to remove all the old flocking. I then rebuilt/reinforced the interior of the case using liquid nails and then used a dremel for the pistol impression. I used some royal blue adhesive paint/adhesive to recolor the entire insert. After that dried, I then reapplied the paint/adhesive and followed the directions on applying the flocking material to each piece. Let it dry for 24 hours and then removed the excess with a toothbrush.

I did all of the above while also working on the exterior of the case. The interior only took about about 4 hours of work but took 4 days due to drying time of the liquid nails, paint drying, and the for the flocking to properly adhere to the insert.

It looks like Joe Cebull has some competition!

Awesome rescue and I think you did very well with a 5" Model 27-2.

Great job on the case. Even better job in spotting the incorrect post on the 27.

Not competition, HELP! I only wish we lived closer together so we could compare notes! That's an outstanding job!

Thanks Joe. Your work on my 29-2 6 1/2" presentation case is what inspired me.

I've got a lot of time on my hands since I retired from law enforcement and now I can do some things I really enjoy. I actually get to shoot more and have gone back to shooting my revolvers even more than my semi-autos. The last 10 years of my LE career I was the department's training coordinator/range master and actually shot less than my previous 22 years. But now I've got a range set up on our ranch and get to shoot at least a couple of days a week without any interruptions.

I want to thank everyone for the compliments. Yes, it is more enjoyable to DIY.
