Nickle 58 ?
Did the 58 come in factory nickle?
SCSW doesn't mention nickle. I'm going to look at one tomorrow and am looking for all the info I can get.
All I know now is that it's a nickle 58.
The guy who told me about it thinks it's a -1 which doesn't make sense to me. . Is that one of the new repro (classic?) models ?
Thanks

There were factory nickel plated 58s. Some were sold as police surplus through the Shotgun News in the 1990s. My guess is the percentage of 58s in nickel is smaller than models that were ordinarily bright blue so I’d have my eye open for signs of a refinish. Also evaluating value remember that N frame PC magnas were only used on 58s and 520s so they’re hard to replace.
I don’t know about the dash 1.

I had a 58 no dash in nickel. In the original box, original "tissue" type paper, all tools, all literature, with marks on 3 chambers from test firing, and absolutely no turn line. I don't think it had been handled after it left the factory. One of the all time STUPID things I did when I sold it.

Nickel is a 10% add at least in the model 58. Also look for an S serial number..Even more rare. These only came in the 4 inch Barrel I believe and my research states more blued than Nickel were produced.
The classics were produced from 2009-2011 with Nickel Classics being Disc. in 2010. I would imagine you will be able to tell right away if it is a new production or the original production.
Cross your fingers its an S serial number and not a refinish and you will have one heck of a find
If im wrong here...dont be afraid to correct me, forum friends..

I had a factory nickel one a few years ago. It was bought new by a Birmingham, Alabama police officer.

Sounds about right Jim,But I would say Nickel M58's bring about a 20% premium.I have been told that about 10% or less of the M58's where Nickel,So that means there are about 2,000 or less of them(SCSW states 20,287 M58's made total)

Agreed 100%, I was reading from the Damn Blue book, and we know where that gets us. Maybe even a little higher than 20%....Nice Catch

Oh - you can tell a classic 58 from an original - it's got an extra hole and a goofy arrow on the side above the thumb piece....

No it is not original but it is very well done.It is amazing how much it helps when shooting the gun,I don't know why S&W never caught on to this idea.

S&W was very late to the game in putting red ramps in target sight models as standard as well. In fact it wasnt until the 66-2/67-2, 19-5, 15-5, 14-5, 17-5, 29-3, 27-3, era that red ramps were standard on target models. Even though it was optional for going on 30+ years before that. I dont think they ever put a red ramp on a fixed sight model from the factory, but it would have been nice too.

Pilgrim,
Stopped at Outback Arms in Plympton yesterday. While looking in the revolver case I eyed a nickel M58 in what appeared to be like new condiiton. My heart began to flutter. Then I saw the hole in the side.

I've had a couple nickel 58's over the years..neat N frames.
Here is a recent buy likewise with a red insert.
Unknown you did the job.
This is likely my favorite N frame for wood bumming.
