10-6 DOB help, please
I'm looking at a 4" heavy barreled 10-6 .38, with a serial number of D1147xx.
Can anyone tell me what year it was made?
I can get it for $200, out the door.
It's not pretty outside. It was bought from a police department.
It was a "siezure gun", siezed in an arrest/sat in an evidence locker until the trial resulted in a conviction/numbers did not come up as stolen/sold to the LGS by the PD.
I'd love to send it home for a good factory polish/reblue.
Then again, it would be a great candidate for bead blast and matte blue or Parkerizing.
It does feel a bit like blasphemy, not putting a high-polish blue on a Smith revolver.
The Magna grips need to be replaced. Not a problem. Plenty of aftermarked and factory grips available.
The trigger is sweet.
I'm considering it for a home defense gun.

Thanks.
I hate to shell out 200 bucks for one that isn't pretty, but with prices what they are these days................
Besides, it's a K frame, the epitome of 6 shot .38 Special revolvers.
I considered Pachmayr Grippers or NOS Uncle Mike's grips, but I really like the feel of the square butt Magnas.
Extra thanks, for being so quick on the draw.
I like the fact that it's a pinned, heavy barrel. And, that whole K frame thing.
The only gun that feels as good in my hands with wood non-target grips as a K frame, is a Ruger Speed Six.
And, I think the Smith actually feels a little bit better in my paw. Just a little.
Of course, the Ruger trigger can't touch that K frame trigger, out of the box.

For 200 bucks, you can do just about anything to that thing. It would be nice if you could get whatever documents that might be associated with the gun's sordid past (Chain of evidence, ballistics, transcripts, etc.) And with some documentation, you can always embellish the truth a bit, and have it implicated in some horrific crime-of-the-century that was hushed up. The possibilities are endless!
On the other hand, that's probably a stupid idea. But, it's still a great shooter. Can't go wrong for $200.00!

I bought a Mossberg .22 rifle from them that still has the evidence sticker on the stock. (State's Exhibit 4) I'm leaving it on there, because it's unique.
Like I said, I hate that it got uglied up on the outside, but I love the fact that it's a K frame.

Well, I went and courted that homely old girl. She was a beauty when she was young. But, she's got it where it counts.
No pics yet.
She's in pieces right now. I gotta clean and lube her. Then, I can test her out. She was nasty inside, but there doesn't seem to be much internal wear.
I'll know more after I get her cleaned.
I may bead blast and Parkerize her.
I'd like to send her home for a factory polish/reblue.
Now, to get some S&W Magnas to replace the ratty originals.
Not sure if I want to get period correct OEM or if I just want to get brand new OEM Magnas.
New OEM will cost a lot less, $27.99 at Midway.
