Good-looking and good-feeling grips for Model 13, sub $70
I have gotten my hands on a new-to-me square-butt Model 13 with the 4" heavy barrel. This is my first S&W K-frame. It came with the magna-style grips, which I think look best on this revolver appearance-wise. Unfortunately, they just don't feel comfortable in my hand.
Now, I considered getting a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips and shooting with them, then putting the magnas on for show-and-tell time. But before I go that route, I thought I would try finding grips that would do both: look good and feel good. Particularly I'm considering:
- the S&W coke bottle style grips; I'm worried that they wouldn't look quite right on this 4" revolver. They do seem to look better on longer-barrel guns.
- the Altamont target grips: it seems like they are a little smaller than the coke grips? Or is this a false impression?
- Craig Spegel grips seem like a good size.
Note that I hate the look of finger groves. The Spegels with the one grove are about the most I would consider. I also love checkering, which is why Ahrends are not on the list, as well as some other ones that I've heard good things about...
I know that many of you have some or all of these grips, and I was wondering if some you could put up photos, particularly of square-butt 4" guns with no extractor shroud (model 10, model 13, model 64, model 65, etc). Even if it won't help me pick a grip, the drool all over my keyboard will be worth it!

The Altamont target grips are quite a bit thinner than the S&W originals. They work very well on 4 inch K frames as shown on my model 67.
Model 66-2 with mid 1980's S&W Goncalo Alves target stocks for comparison.
Another great option at the $70 mark- Ahrends grips. These are Retro-combat. The version without finger grooves is called Tactical.

Judging from how much I like the feel of the uncle mikes boot grips on my RB j-frames, I'd suggest finding a set for your SB k. I believe that'd be UM p/n 59011.

You have a lot of options for sure.
have you ever used one with the magnas and T grip adapter?
Nice looking and a much better feel in my opinion
Smooth magnas and a T grip ?
smooth Rosewood targets ?
I think I'd start with a T grip see if you like the feel and go from there

Alnamvet68, thank you for your service.
Also, I like those grips you show in the post above mine.
Where can I get some?
What are they called?
Who made them.
Funny thing, the day I bought my 586 no-dash, I was looking at an older Charter Target Bullldog.
The factory wood target grips felt great in my hand.
Too bad wood grips are NOT fun when shooting a 21 ounce .44 Spl.
As an aside: Hey, four of my favorite revolver cartridges are Smith creations.
.38 S&W Special, .357 Mag, .44 S&W Special, and .44 Mag.
No wonder, I've become a Smith fan.

You can get them at Vintage Gun Grips - Reproduction Pistol Grips, Buttplates and Grip Caps.. They are real English black walnut, and they're not "sprayed" with any plastic like coating....they're oiled.

If you have large hands and are going to
be shooting your Model 13 a lot, you may
want to think about Herrett's "Jordan Trooper"
stocks. They make .357s much easier on old folks.
teesur.

Well, I ordered an Altamont target grip, no finger groves, yes checkering. I'll put up pics once I get it.
