Default Model 53 .22 Jet, 1st Year Production

While gun shows here in CA are hit and miss, there still are some deals out there if you have your side-sweeping radar on, cash in your wallet and are willing to and knowledgeable enough to make a decision quickly, otherwise someone else will snatch it up. I found this early Model 53 .22 Remington Centerfire Magnum, AKA .22 Jet recently. It included the original, numbered box and all contents except for the tapered swab, red caution tag and it was missing two out of the set of .22 LR inserts. The seller also said the deal included a full box of factory ammo, which had a $6.50 price tag ( ! ) still on it.
It looks to have been fired very, very little and was priced about 60% of what similar packages sell for on the online auction sites. Needless to say after giving it a thorough examination I handed over the money and didn't even dicker on the price.
I also managed to find another full box of ammo at the show for $40 which was a bargain, so it was my lucky day all around.

No need to letter it, Mr. Jinks kindly provided the shipping date and I know where it went, the popular Evaluators in Quantico, VA

Wow!That's a beaut! Good deal on the ammo too. I have a hard time finding it under $60 a box....I have about 6 or 7 boxes, so I guess the next step is to start reloading....Your Model 53 looks to be one of the nicest I've seen.....Got a pawn shop near my office that has one in the case for $795, pretty rough overall, and been there for 4 years....I got mine for around $500 with a 2X scope...prices seem to be all over the place on these....nice find, congrats.

Default 4 screw

I found one at a show pistol only no box but six adapters in cylinder. Good condition $500. also have 22 Jet in a Contender and H&R Topper model 158. I reload and noticed that Sierra list 40 and 45 grain bullets at .223 diameter. But I was told that .222 diameter was the correct bullet.

Default Tough in Calif

Great find for a Calif guy. I remember how hard it was to find good guns there. Much easier in AZ! I Have a few extra inserts if you want to fill out your cylinder. The other posts are correct about LOUD. However it is accurate and good on most varmints out to 100 yards. Enjoy it.

.222 is the correct diameter, but I have used the sierra .223 bullets for at least 20yrs. now and they shoot better than the .222. the only except is, remington .222 jet bullets. good luck finding a shootable quantity of those. they were last made in 1984. hornady made a .222 bullets just for the jet, but has suspended making anything other than the most popular calibers for the immediate future.

I saw this on my local Armslist today. I'm not interested, but thought I'd pass it along in case someone was.
