One of my "house guns". A New Yorker that relocated to the Sunshine State . I love these police trade ins, wish I'd bought more when I had a chance.

NYC police trade in. The vapor honed finish shows some holster wear, but this gun is a joy to shoot. My favorite for IDPA when I shoot a revolver. My wife loves this gun, and shoots it well. I have added Tyler tgrips since these were taken.

I'm not sure of the production date, so I posted here.

Very nice! The estimate is just under 2500 of the 4" square butt NY-1 model 64s were produced, and collecting one of each authorized variation (barrel length and frame) is a popular goal. If it had the SN stamped under the left cylinder window on the frame, it is one of the later ones (and it was washed out in the photo). If you'd like a ship date estimate, posting the three-letter prefix will help us out with that. Enjoy!

Don't have my serial number table handy, let's see if someone else beats me to posting the ship date...

1991, the vapor honed NY-1's were the last ones made, previously they were brushed stainless.

Earlier

Sort of transitional, brushed finish, serial number under the cylinder

BHJ puts it in either June or July, 1991, presuming the NY-1s shipped in alphabetical order.

That's a terrible handgun. There isn't any plastic on it. Better send it to me for proper care, er....disposal.

BHJ7235
Had S&W do a combat job on it.
Asked them to re-stamp the S/N, but that didn't happen:
