Default Information Request: J frame "high horn" diamond magnas??

I picked these up from another forum member. Neither one of us really knew what they were...but I was looking for a re-finish project and they were in need of one. I think I have it narrowed down to "high horns". Am I guessing correctly?

Thanks to mbliss57, if they are high horns, it sounds like they were discontinued in 1967. Any idea when they were introduced? What models they came on? Common or rare? Value?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Sorry for the poor photo.

Those are semi-high horn grips for older Bodyguard shrouded hammer J-frames. They are NOT correct for Centennial frames, the grips for which had even higher horns.

One variety of the 'high horns' also uses a smaller rear washer. They will only fit a particular early model or two. Without going through my stash of grips, I don't remember which one.

Indeed. The original Centennial high-horn stocks also were only produced smooth and (to my less than perfect) knowledge not available checkered.

Well, I’ll be darned. You always learn something new. I guess when in doubt, one should check the catalog. The SCSW does indeed state “checked diamond walnut or smooth wood high horned grips” (not stocks ). I wonder why the checked version was so unpopular, or alternately wasn’t marketed in any significant numbers.

Well I'm in the dark on this, I have a 340PD that I would like the high horn wood checkered stocks/grips to be flush with the top of the frame so I can more comfortably grip high on this revolver...is this combo gonna work? I would like S&W grips, I know Craig Spegal makes some high horn boots but I think a Tyler t grip and some high horn stocks would be the cats meow..is this doable or are the frames different from these earlier centennials?

The smooth factory high horns you see on early Centennials have smaller-sized locating washers on the backsides that won't fit properly on the newer Centennial frames. Offhand, I don't know of anyone who makes what you're looking for.

On a 442 I had, I got the high horn Spegel boot grip you mention, the best thing I was able to find.
