Default I made a holster for my 27

Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I posted something. I thought I would share this. Like a whole lot of people, I started building holsters.

I shared my old 27 a while ago. It looked like a perfect candidate for some woodland camo! The kit is huge and not the best for carry, but it's great for the range.

It's been a lot of fun. Thanks for letting me share.

I am not a fan of the finish on the gun, but I do admit it matches the holster perfectly.

I think you did a great job with the holster. What material is it? What did it cost to build? Can you convert it to inside carry? I would like to get some for a K frame.

I'm a dinosaur and my opinion is not that of management. The holster is great work, you done good. Steel belongs in leather, plastic is good for plastic bottom feeders. As to the gun finish, again it looks great. But on wheel guns it seems to not be a good fit. Knowing that circumstances alter cases, I can see a gun being in that gray area, needs something done, worth too much not to give her some paint & powder(make-up) but not worth enough for a mother-ship or Ford's makeover. The gun/holster match was a good call.

I'm also a dinosaur and I think the only proper finish for that gun would be blued but it's kinda growin' on me. I remember you had a thread on how that gun was rusty when you got it and you had it duracoated.
It's a good feeling to make your own stuff. I work with leather and make my own holsters and stuff.
I don't know, somehow it seems that Kydex holster goes with that Duracoated revolver.
Never thought I'd say Kydex, Duracoat and revolver all in the same sentence.

Thanks for the comments. I really enjoy making holsters from kydex and I'm toying with the idea of trying leather.

This 27 appears to have been a 6 inch that someone cut to 4 and replaced the sight. The rust pitting required bead blasting and polishing. I don't have before pictures.

Thanks again!

Default Dino

I am definitely in the dino club as well.....but I am a fan of kydex for carry holsters, particularly in hot, humid climes where I would carry an IWB rig...."work" guns wear whatever finish is deemed appropriate in my book and carried however works best for the gun toter.....nice job on the holster..I have dabbled with some kydex work myself......I carry a M-58 and M-29 4" often myself....big fan of the Houges as well......good shooting.

I've made a number of holsters over the years. The nice part about making your own is you can make the highest quality holster for unusual or rare guns. I have combined the best features of holsters I like.
Here is my hand made holster for my 3" 66. Very close to Bianchi 5BHL. Mine also has the full lining. I give a lot of credit to John Bianchi's book, Blue Steel & Gun Leather.
