Default Model 27-2 Trigger Locking Up

I have a Model 27-2 that I purchased new over 30 years ago. For some time, while you pull the trigger rapidly in double-action, the trigger will lock-up and you can't pull it. Usually when I release the trigger and pull it again it will work again. This does not happen often, but often enough that it bothers me. Does anybody have an idea as to what may be causing causing this? I contacted S&W and their customer service people told me it would be 6 or 7 months turn-around time if I sent it to them and that is not acceptable to me (whatever happened to their excelllnt customer service?). I have no gunsmith in my area that I trust. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

This sometimes happens. The trigger needs to be returned all the way forward each time it is pulled. Some guns will lock when the trigger is not released all the way. It might need cleaning inside to make sure the trigger spring has enough strength to push the trigger all the way forward. Is the trigger return spring still factory?

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure if the trigger return spring is factory. Many years ago I had a gunsmith work on it and he may have replaced the springs. That is a great suggestion though, I will replace the rebound spring and the main spring with factory springs.

First check the front side plate screw. It also holds the crane in place and can cause problems if loose. Next remove the grips and check the strain screw in the front of the grip frame. This will also cause the problem you describe if loose. You can also clean under the extractor. Hope one of these helps.

My 66-1 started having that same problem after I installed a 16 pound Wolff trigger return (rebound) spring.
Guess what spring I'm putting back into that one?
That's right, the factory S&W spring.
Reliable beats a little bit lighter.

Thanks guys. I have ordered all new factory spec springs. I will let you know what happens when I receive them and get them installed.
