I know absolutely nothing about engraving and I'm wondering if any one can identify what has been done to this mid-60's 10-5. It looks like some kind of machine/laser did the work. The picture was taken with a flash.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is factory laser engraving, which is/was recently available (well after the 1960s, so I would guess it was sent back to the factory for it if so).

Thanks Alan. I'll call S&W customer service to see if they can shed some light on the subject. Sometimes you get lucky with a rep who is willing to go deeper into their computer.

I agree with Alan. My first thought is that someone sent it back to S&W for the laser engraving. Naturally, if it was sent to S&W, I would think there would be a record of that.
