Default A Couple of Recent Additions. 13-2 and 14-3

Here are my two most recent additions, both found at my local gun store, about a mile from my house.

The first is a 13-2 which dates to 1979, I believe. This was definitely a duty gun at one time. Lots and lots of holster wear and came with aforementioned holster, well used. It shoots great with 38's but I have not had a chance to run it through it's paces with full load .357's yet. I probably overpaid, slightly, at $450. However, for my area, it's a fair price and I don't like to haggle with the guy when I am putting the gun on layaway.

And a before and after shot of the holster:

And after a little cleaning and some polish.

Next is one I am really jazzed about. Didn't think I'd be able to get my hands on a decently priced 14. Don't see them around here very much. This one was a bit of a steal but not really. More on that later. Serial dates it to 1971. One year off my birth year.

Here she is: ****** cell phone picture.

That is glare on the barrel. There is just a touch of wear on both sides of the muzzle. The extractor rod, however, is totally devoid of bluing. Don't really know what that means, other than it mat have been replaced at some point. Maybe it was someone's Bullseye gun somewhere along the way. The action is butter smooth and single action break is just what you'd dream of.

Cost? Well I did a little work for the owner's son. Really just used some connections to put him in touch with a good contractor and did a little paperwork. Not more than a couple hours time. That and $300 and she was mine.

Oh, and those factory Combats came with it.

Very nice pick ups. Forum members really like the 13's, me included. Nice job on the holster btw.

Thanks. Just took a little TLC. I had a Model 65 for a few years, the stainless cousin to the 13. Had to let it go last year due to some ignition problems it was plagued by.

Well done on the new acquisitions.

If the bluing loss on the 14's ejector rod is uneven, it might be slightly bent; worth a look. If the loss is uniform, it could be from 1) repeat shell ejection of many, many sessions, or 2) the rod was smoothed as part of an action job.

Out of curiosity, what attracted the buyer?

A very affordable project. Full disclosure.

Thanks for your thoughts on the ejector rod. The bluing loss is very uniform.

That price for the M13 sounds mighty fine to me. I would have been a buyer too. I'm guessing that the -2 is a little early for the speed-loader cutout targets, but that is of little importance to most folks. All in all, a very nice package at an attractive price.

Feel free to use that PM function any time one of those $550 NIB Model 13s pops up.

Digging the 13-2.
I am not really in the market for any additional S&W revolvers at the moment but I would have made the same move on that one.
I have a 3" "-3" and a 10-6 4".
As I age I'm getting into the good ole simple K-frames!
