Model 19 Sight Removal
I'm trying to see how the sight on my 1972 Model 19 comes off for replacement. I've used a magnifier looking for pins but am not seeing any. Is the sight and base pressed into the barrel,or am I missing something??

I believe the ramp base is forged with the barrel and cannot be removed. The sight blade should be pinned to the base with a single pin that is polished flush and may be hard to see.

Use magnification to closely examine the area where the actual sight blade joins the ramp.
If the sight is a separate piece and is removable, you'll be able to see the tiny gap between the blade and ramp.
If the sight was forged as one piece with the ramp and barrel there won't be a gap and if you look close you'll see just a sharp transition between the ramp and sight.
If it's forged and machined as one solid piece, you can't remove the sight at all.

one piece i believe
sight base and blade appears to be one piece. no gap at all at front of sight blade to base. i have found 2 minute pins that appear to attach the sight base to the barrel rib. blade was altered to a red ramp sight years ago ( i know,,i know) . i was wanting to make it the same as my model 18 with black ramp. For all the major problems i may make (i'm good at this),i think i'll try mixing some resin and black dye and replace the red with black. if this messes up no big deal to do again. if i mess up pins and that great bluing i got problems...... big thanks for the help fellas !@!

After casting in a black insert, use a checkering file to groove the insert to match the grooves on the sight.
This will make the insert blend in very well.
