27-2 or 66-1 your preference?
hello there i have a 66-1 .357 in SS nos unfired since factory with box/papers/tools and just bought a 27-2 .357 nickle plated nos also unfired since factory with box papers etc... i would like to carry one of them and keep one aside . im leaning towards carrying the 66 and keeping the 27 as i also have a modle 29 in nickle also NOS . would that be the better choice too carry the ss keep the nickles for another day ??? pics will come 27 not here yet , another day or two

Not that S & W nickel finishes are particularly fragile, but carrying the 66 is definitely the better idea. It will show less wear and can be redone to look new fairly easily.

Of the three that you described I would definitely carry the 66-1. The K frames are considerably lighter and more easily concealed than the larger N frames and there is no doubt about their effectiveness. Thousands of LEOs carried them for many years with great results. Also, the NOS condition 27-2 and 29 have a greater resale value.
With three such desireable guns you are in an enviable position regardless of your choice of which to carry.

Agreed with the above posters as the Model 66-1 is what I would carry because it conceals easier and it won't lose as much value as the 27-2 when it gets holster wear.

I carry a 442 every day because it's light and accurate.....following that theory your 66 would be the one, though I much prefer shooting nframes and carry one on occasion.

Thank you all for your input , I really like the nickle finish great looking guns , But i guess i will carry the stainless steel , not as flashy as nickle, but will definatly get the job done in style .

While stainless doesn't isn't as 'flashy' as nickel you can polish a stainless gun to a pretty high luster if that's what you desire.
I would also carry/shoot the Model 66.

Either of the N frames would make perfect BBQ guns! It will give your 66 a break!

The 66 (mid-frame), for the average person is much easier to carry and shoot than the large frame 27.

N frames are for woods carry.
K frames are for urban carry.

The 66 would be my choice for concealed carry due to the size.
Open carry I'd do the 27 in an instant.

Redhawks are for woods carry.
S&W N Frames are the way to go great guns to carry and In nickel that's the deal clincher.
I love big freaking revolvers. In my big hands they just feel right. The N frames rock.

Trade the M66 for a 4" Highway Patrolman for everyday carry!!!!!
N frames hold better value

carry both
carry both, the 66 every day
and the 27 when you go to a BBQ or for the holiday dinner.
Too bad, in NJ we do not have the tradition to wear bbq guns when invited to a block party.

Of the three, the 66 is the best choice of those three for carry, IMHO.
Now, what I would do is get a J-frame, or something else, and leave the really nice guns in the safe. Believe me, I've tried lugging big, heavy, guns. It gets old in a hurry.

If you're going to carry an N frame with 6 rounds, might as well make it a 29 or 629
I'd prefer the weight and compactness of a K frame. Same horsepower as the 27, and easier to pack.

IMHO, way too much recoil for fast second or third shots with the .44 mag.(I didn't see you mention specials).

I’d probably carry the 66, all other things being equal, mostly because I value the 27-2 much more than the 66.
A new in box 27 is worth more than a 66 to me: I don’t value stainless guns very highly.

Follow your heart! Many ccw happily carry full size 1911s that are similar in weight to a 4" N frame. That said, I ccw J, K, L and N frames. Granted the smaller guns are lighter, but most within a pound of each other. With a proper holster/belt set up you won't notice the difference. But that's me...
