Certainly not like Hemingway
FWIW, and not to be persnickety, but the description is certainly NOT "Hemingway-esque." (assuming that statement refers to the wordiness of the description). Ernest Hemingway was actually known for writing more succinctly than other authors, so in reality his writing style is the opposite of the gun's description. His wording was a little more on the sparse side, most often.
I would call the writing style of the ad alternatively "Dickens-esque." His books were often long, and the text was very long-winded, excessive actually. He wrote Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, etc. and all are fairly long. His writing style was in part a product of the times he lived in.
Hemingway was actually an avid sportsmen and hunter. I recall reading that he had a Registered Magnum. His novel "The Old Man and the Sea" is a great one.
"If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them."
~ Ernest Hemingway in Death in the Afternoon

The seller is a ****. The buyer really wanted a Model 29. It's kind of sad. But in a way the buyer will soon understand that they need to deal with the right type of folks. Hard lesson to learn. Many of us have gone down the same path. For me it was 35 years ago. It all amounts to research, knowing the seller and then jumping in. Books, internet and friends will help you down that path. Just ask Jack(NYSP) about that beautiful Pre-29 he got hooked up with at Christmas. Oh and for a whole lot less that this guy just spent. Just my .02..

@ the OP:
I'll tell you an interesting story, and a sad one at that. When I first got into collecting, about ten years ago, I had an opportunity to buy one in the same serial range as the one you posted.
Part 1: I bought it.
In my experience, and i'll be the first to admit i am no expert, it takes about 250 - 350 cycles of the action to get a ring on the cylinder like that one. The one I had, there was no ring at all present and no blemish anywhere...the most perfect example I have ever seen. It was reported to be unfired and not handled since the factory.
I believed it and still do. I bought it for $ 750.00 at that time.
About 5 years later, I just "had" to start another project.
Part 2: I sold it.
Yep. Against my better judgement, I sold this beauty for the princely sum of $850.00. Since then, I have been trying to find another in as fine of condition for a collector piece and no luck.

There were 3 bidders in at the last $150. I wouldn't suggest any shilling with 2 going up against the winner.

Something tells me the infamous seller is reading this thread and laughing all the way to the bank.
On the other hand, it would be even funnier if the winning bidder saw this thread and lost his wallet somewhere.....

Scary part is that FOUR bidders bid over $2000 and THREE of them over $3000!

Based on the sellers verbiage and being from a state known for them, wonder if he could be a lawyer?

He's a seller on Gunbroker, too -- consistently has, shall we say, impressively preserved collector's items and the prices to go with them.

Smith & Wesson 38 Safety 3rd Model 38 S&W Revolver : Antique Guns at GunBroker.com
Here is a similar scenario. Antique 38 DA, supposedly all original in a rare 2" configuration. I emailed to seller to ask about the barrel which certainly appears to be a cut down and modified barrel with all of the stamping sanded of the top of the barrel (2" models are stamped on the side). Got an email back from seller "this is how we bought it and that's all we know about it". The gun sold for $999. Some people just want what they want and don't bother to research.....Thank goodness this forum helps educate folks who care to investigate.

How about this for irony, if you google that one bidders GB name, DirtyHarryGun$ales - his feedback comes up, then you can click "View Items for Sale"
He has a 29 no dash, 6.5 in blue in a later style presentation case with football cutout non-diamond targets for $3495 haha He wrote that its "ultra rare" Then what is a first year nickel factory nickel 44 mag? Ultra-super-duper-esp-very rare?
Pretty interesting...you always have to wonder, is it true ignorance or is it dishonesty?

Even the competing bidders look suspect...DirtyHarryGun$ales did the most to take it up to that level.
I realize the people can come up with and use any user handle they want, but... really?

He's legit, won one of my auction. He only buys NIB/LNIB guns and will pay top $$ for them. He also owns a collector/hotrod car place that deals in top shelf cars.
You may have seen him on the TV show Pawn Stars as he was their car expert on a couple of shows after the regular "Danny" left to do his own show.

Well maybe I can still breathe on the middle road with an air pack. Am I the only one ( other than Gunhacker, of course ) that finds it a little odd that someone who is suppose to be a dealer is bidding multiples over retail value for a revolver, to resell?!!! One would have to assume it's to resell since he has a similar revolver that's even more wrong ( football targets ) on his page with a buy it now for 3500.00!! I would be curious to see if Elusive3rd degree is bidding on his auctions as well driving the prices up. What is it they say about birds of a feather?

Hmmmm, that's very interesting. I think I sold him a Harley Crossbones a few years back. I think the possibility exists that he is legit but that maybe he may not intend on actually winning the auctions. Certainly he knows that this revolver package isn't correct. After all the winning bidder is the new member.

Good catch Gorings' S&W. That gun looks like he passed it through the Illusive 33's grip & box harvesting system before he got it too. Both of them use similar verbiage to describe their rare guns.
I copied & pasted this from his ad on GB!
this beautiful revolver features gorgeous blue steel and beautiful factory wood grips. Again, this is a very rare Model 29, fired very little since leaving the factory in 1961 and investment grade quality throughout. Complete w/ original Walnut Presentation case, in amazing condition for being 53 years old, w/ original tools

We can't wait to hear a report on this one. Did the seller make some indication to you that he actually has a "shop"?
With the internet and creation of webpages, anyone can make it sound like he works in a high rise when he actually lives in his car & the trunk is his office.
Please do report back.

I Love mine just the way it is, no bad feelings after shooting it. But I do hope yours is not the issue in question.

I just picked up a 29-2 from 1975-76 with wooden box for $1,000 on gunbroker. They guy started the auction at $.01. Excellent condition gun for more than I wanted to spend, but I am very happy with it. I would never spend $3,500 though!
