Default The Ultimate K-22/Model 17 Thread

I've seen a number of "Ultimate" threads but couldn't find one for the M-17, so let's right this injustice to a deserving revolver.

I'll kick it off with my 17-3. I don't know it's birth date so I may have to post SN later in the thread since I don't have it right now.

Will a K22 Outdoorsman fit in here?

Or a 17-4

Or maybe a 617-6

I have been working on building the k-22 collection. First picture is a hard to find bright blue pre 17 4 screw. Next in line a pre 17 single line. Third is a pre war O.D. I have been keeping a eye out for a model 18. Mike DSCN0404.jpg

Here is the first S&W I ever bought. I was a 20 year old college student in 1957. It's still with me 57 years later.

And here is the box it came in. "Hey Fred, I got a K-22 coming for shipment, break out the white stamp."

teesur.

Posted this a while back, but time for a 2nd look:

OK, time from a break from all the NIB treasures and safe queens. Want to share a K22 that's worked - hard - from the day it was purchased new in 1952.

A gent in his 80s brought this into the LGS. He was seeking advice as to what he should "do" with it now.

He purchased it (K150xxx) new in 1952. Carried it working traplines in western Oregon for 60 years. It "lived" in this holster for the entire period, stored in it too.

Finish is 1/2 gone, rust and scratches. Even a ring in the barrel. But it worked on, decade after decade. He has no idea of how many animals it dispatched, including more than a few bears, he says.

As for what to "do" with it, I'd say an honored retirement is in order.

Glad I started this thread, very educational, and humbling. I had never heard of a nickel K22.

Ok, my meager one 17-3 is numbered 6K33xxx.
Can someone give me a year?

Thanks for all the awesome pics.

Two of my favorites, a 617 no dash and an early postwar K-22.

The experience & story behind it are worth more than if it were unfired & 95% + condition.

The gentleman must not have had anyone to pass it on to.

A beautiful gun. I've got K32xxx here that is its twin, from 1948 if I remember right. It is honored by continuing to be carried and shot.

Only have one(for now) K22. It's a 6 inch,TT,TH,TS 17-2.; Ser.#K729558. Don't know what the birthdate would be. I do know it is a great shooter, and I prefer it to my Model 41.

God bless,
