Default M29-2 timing question

I looked at a 29-2, probably '79 vintage, and have a question about the timing.

There were 3 reset clicks. Pulling after the first did nothing, pulling after the last did a full DA reset. Good so far. But pulling after the 2nd would rotate the cylinder and 'bump' the hammer. Not enough to strike a primer, I assume, but it did rotate the cyl.

I imagine a .44 Mag load shakes the heck out of the internals, but the bore looked pretty clean and the seller swears it couldn't have many rounds through it. Finish was a bit rough so I passed.

I hear that early 29s had timing and counter-rotation issues.
Surely what I saw isn't normal, is it? I'm not a wheelgun expert by any measure but none of my other revolvers or semi-autos act like that. Either reset->fire or nothing. I can't think of why a revolver would rotate the cyl without cocking.

If it's off is it a simple fix, like replacing springs?

What say the experts here?

Thanks,
Todd G

"I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking 'did he do a full trigger reset or only go to the 2nd click?' Now to tell you the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow you head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself a question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"
