What should you look for when buying a used revolver. I hear about play in the cylinder and fore and aft movement. Are there areas in the frame that i should focus on? Just after some general guidelines so i make sound decesions.
I buy a lot of used s&w revolvers and I check the barrel cylinder gap on all chambers, check timing by slow cocking of the hammer make sure the gun locks up on each chamber, check for hammer push off by cocking the hammer and using moderate pressure on the back of the hammer to see if it falls, also check inside of barrel for bulges. make sure the cylinder opens and closes easy. open cylinder and spin the cylinder and watch the ejector rod for any wobble as it will indicate a bent ejector rod.check smoothness of the action both double action and single action.
