S&W 64 NYC1 question
I'm pretty new to revolvers but have a lead on a 64 that's marked NYC1. It has a bobbed hammer, which I don't mind. My question is did the NYPD have S&W adjust the trigger so it's heavier than a stock trigger similar to what they had Glock do?
Is it relatively easy to lighten the trigger if it is ultra heavy? I won't be carrying and don't want it too light, probably 10 lbs would be good.
Anything else you can tell me about this model would be appreciated. Thanks.

There were several thousand model 64s stamped NY-1 that were DAO with the hammer spur removed. I think the trigger pull weight you describe is about as issued, but there are various spring kits (the Wolff is popular) that can lighten it. If you install it, you'll want to make sure if fires reliably afterward.

What's a good price for one?
Thanks for the info on the trigger pull. Any thoughts on what a good price might be? It looks to be in 90 percent condition. I'm guessing between $300-$350 would be reasonable.

All of the 64 NY-1s I have seen have had very nice triggers just as they were.

What is the barrel length? It was rumored that the NY-1's had action jobs from the NYPD Armorer's.

This NY-1 has a regular DA trigger, no SA notch. Pull is about the same as any other K frame revolver, maybe 8 lbs. No "trigger job" that I can tell. Joe

To 05 carbon, It's a 4 inch barrel.
Thanks to everyone for the info. For those of you interested, the gunbroker auction just closed and I got it for $286 plus shipping. I can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks again.

Is this normal?
Well, just picked up the 64 NY1 and it looks great for the most part. My only question is the crown/muzzle doesn't seem quite round. I've read on the internet that some say this is normal and others say the opposite. I've sent a note to S&W to check. I just want to make sure this is safe to shoot. Any thoughts?

NYC1
I have a 3" NY-1 and it's one of my favorite DA revolvers. It is in a handy location near my front door, where it can be retrieved and held discretely behind my right leg when I answer the door.

Markyboy-thanks for the comment. Do you know why it seems out of round? Does it affect the accuracy? I just picked it up yesterday and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

All of my revolvers with that style crown look like that. I believe that where the lands and grooves exit on the radius of the crown it gives it the illusion of being out of round. All mine are very accurate.
I think you will be quite happy with the trigger, most of those were nice and smooth. Let us know how it shoots.
