Last one of the day, we promise! This Model 36 J frame has some interesting engraving that we would love to identify. It also has some end-box markings that we are very unfamiliar with. A great picture of the box sticker is below, let us know if you can translate any of the numbers (R003 Class A, I-90, I-95, I-98, etc.)
This Model 36 has a 2" barrel, wood S&W Grips, three screw frame, pinned barrel, no strain screw, and square notch sights that are part of the top strap. The trigger and hammer are color case hardened. Frame, Cylinder (hand eject), and barrel are all highly engraved with a fairly unusual (at least to us) pattern. There is substantial engraving on the trigger guard, back strap, and yolk; all of which were a little difficult to photograph. Bore has incredibly sharp rifling, and cylinder has very little end shake. The double action trigger pull seems a little tough, but could be due to no cleaning/lubrication/use for 20+ years. Nothing appears to be broken, out of time, or worn.
We have three more of these in all different engraving patterns. Any and all information, critiques, or comments are welcome and encouraged. Let us know what you guys think about this piece, and if you'd like to see any others. Thanks!
