Default Correct grips for a 29-2 N7495XX

Good Evening,
I purchased a model 29-2 last weekend and it came with a set of Houges on it and with a set of S&W target grips relieved for a speedloader. The back of the left target grip is stamped with the date of Nov 13, 1986. Could these be the original Smith and Wesson grips for this revolver? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Not correct stocks.
Your revolver was furnished with the "football relief" type.

Roger what Taroman said. The "Football" targets were standard from late 1968 until 1982.

That SN would date the revolver from sometime in 1980, therefore the football relief type would be period correct. Many factory target stocks are found with an ink date stamp inside, but I have seen some which were not. Those un-stamped are probably replacements. You might look on eBay for a more correct pair. They show up fairly often, and a really good pair can be a little expensive. You can also sell the set you have there, as the later full cutout stocks will often bring a higher price than the footballs, as I think they are scarcer. I much prefer using the Hogues for shooting over the wooden targets, and somewhat later, S&W made Hogues factory standard equipment for the Model 29.

Just be sure to verify that any pair you buy is really for the N-frame. Early this year, I bought off eBay a very beautiful pair of GA targets advertised as being for an N-frame. When I received them, they were really for a K-frame. The two are close enough dimensionally that you almost have to try them on the gun, but they are not interchangeable. I sold them here at a small profit, so I wasn't out anything.
