Without a factory letter, the closest we can get it 1970-1972.

I don't know how many were made, but the serial number range for 1969 to 1972 includes about 103,450 numbers. That's for all N-frames. Members of this forum, who know far more than I, have stated their belief that the s/n's in this era were not assigned consecutively as a rule. Therefore, attempting to extrapolate s/n's to years, or months, is point less. For example, a N123XX might of shipped after a N321XX.

I have a 28-2 6in N1110xx that I bought new at the end of '72 but according to the numbers on the Ultimate Highway Patrolman thread, it hadn't been made until '73. I may get it lettered someday to find out. I've probably put close to 100,000 rounds through it in 40+ years that I've owned it and it is just a pleasure to shoot.

As was just noted, the serial numbers do bounce around a bit but they are generally in the ball park of the dates in the thread linked to above.
