Which agency?
Hi guys.
I recently acquired a 1969 Model 15-3 with S.C.P.D. stamped on the left side. I know that M15's were very popular with a lot of California departments and I'm thinking maybe San or Santa something. Of course, it could also be from Sioux City, IA or some place most of us have never heard of. Does anyone know of an agency that used 15's that were so marked. The letters appear to be factory done. I'm just curious. I may letter it later if I get curious enough. Thanks.

Any county beginning with the letter "S" would also be a candidate. Maybe another Forum member will recognize the initials and chime in. Good Luck,
Jerry

I have a 10-5 snub nose that belonged to S.C.P.D ( Suffolk Co Police Dept.) Long Island New York. A member here took down my serial number and matched it to a card in the Armoury and I now have a copy of who owned it. Lt Charles Neis, retired and he carried the gun during retirement.

Oh yeah, I didn't think about counties having police departments. All we have here in the South are sheriffs offices. That opens up a lot more possibilities.

In CA Santa Clarita (SoCal) or Santa Clara (NoCal) come to mind.
County PD? I always think of county SO (Sheriff's Office) rather than PD. I guess some counties have Police Departments?

Here in Georgia we have several counties that have both police departments and sheriff offices.

If it's worth $50 to you, a factory letter may (or may not) show that it was shipped to some PD.

Hello, There was another thread recently with a SCPD marked gun, and the question was about the type of grips. It was a Ruger revolver. It was believed the pistol was from Suffolk County NY. Apparently later in the revolver era (?) they started issuing pistols, where they had been private purchases before. It is possible that yours did travel across the country.
For reasons which I do not understand NY have some counties with police departments. Suffolk and Nassau counties, which are on Long Island east of NYC, have police depts. along with sheriffs, state troopers, town/city police and code enforcement officers.

How about San Clemente Police Dept. That is the city right at the southern end of Orange County, on the northern boundary of Camp Pendleton and Trestles Beach.

The range card for this retired pistol for my SCPD 10-5 showed that the dept had purchased from a distributor. So the letter might not tell you which dept.
Could you post a picture so we can see the type fount it was stamped with?
