What does all this mean?
I just bought a mod.28.ser.#297xxx. Stamped inside the yoke is the num.1x233. Below that is A23. Also stamped on upper part of yoke is what looks like a box with 78 inside it. There are two more stampings but even with magnafying glass I can't tell what they are. Anyone know what all this means. I can't get photos clear enough to see the markings. Thanks

They are just assembly marks used when the revolver was being made.

Curious. Is that S297xxx? And a Model 28 with no dash?

Okay. Never mind. I see you have two different threads going about this same revolver. It's a dash 2 with an N prefix serial number.
Thanks anyway.

It REALLY helps if the serial posted is correct and complete.

There are other marks that can be made on a gun from the factory. ( not necessarily yours) For example an early 586, or 686 could have a M on the crane because a recall was done. A N on the cylinder for nickel. Other marks that would indicate other things that a gun might have been sent back for. I don't know who can read those just as assembly marks. Some things are better left unsolved! Bob
