Default Help S&W 38 Special CTG Identification

Great Forum!
My first S&W and my first post.
I just picked this beauty up after waiting the 10 day cool off period.
It is a model 14-3 with a 6 inch barrel. At least I think it is a 6 inch. It is closer to 6 than 4.
The serial number is 6K902XX.
My question is when was it manufactured?
I have attached a PIC.
Thank you for the help!

Welcome to the forum.
Your 14-3 is one of the last of that variation, dating to 1976.
Its a 6" barrel. Measured from muzzle to the front of the cyliner.

It might be from 1975. The grips on it are not original. Originals would be what are known as football target stocks (wood), with a football-shaped ejection cutout on the left panel. But there is nothing wrong with the Pachmayrs now on it for shooting purposes.

Default I am showing off

Please allow me to brag about my new to me S&W 38 Special CTG.
Taroman and Dwalt tell me it is a 1975/6. I cleaned it last night and boy is she a clean piece of beautifully blued steel that only S&W can do so well. The barrel looks like it has never been fired.
I paid $300

Beautiful revolver, you say you paid $300? Jesse James wore a mask, I'll give you $400 tomorrow! lol. Now you need to dress it up, you can get a real nice set of walnut target grips from Smith for $82 plus shipping.

Cookie,

Welcome from the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey.

Your K38 Masterpiece/Model 14 is wearing both a service hammer and trigger. Most likely, it didn't leave the factory with the 3T configuration (target: hammer, trigger, and stocks). Most likely, it left the factory with the standard magna stocks.

You have a great revolver, and they love to consume mid-range 38 Special wadcutters!
