Finally bought a nickel
So in my 40+ years of owning and shooting Smith's I finally bought a nickel. Its a early 70's model 29-2. Bought it on Gunbroker. Looks like it has been handled only a little and shot even less. I have always been a blue and stainless guy. I guess I always thought the nickel guns were a little to pimp for me. Well call me Sugar Bear because I am really liking this gun. Took her out shooting today. Clean up seems real easy. I also found the nickel to be as accurate as the blued and stainless . Guess I have some catching up to do. Here is a pic to prove this is based on a true story.

It's beautiful. About 22 years ago I traded into a NIB 29-2 with a 6" barrel in nickel. Believe it or not I traded it off because while I loved the nickel finish I couldn't get used to the 6" barrel. I can tell the difference between the 6 and 6.5 and I couldn't learn to love it. That's the only 6" N frame I ever owned and I only kept it a few months before deciding it had to go. Only nickel 29 I have owned. Wanted a 4" 29 in nickel but wound up with a 57 instead. Still pretty cool.

Very nice.
I really like those grips on a nickel gun. I have the same grips on a nickel 27-2.

Funny, I feel the same about the 6" model 29's. I have several 6.5's. Bought a 6" last year. Shot it a couple times then sold it.

Very pretty gun. All of my guns are blue. I've never owned a nickel or stainless gun. Strangely, I do admire them.

Almost all of my Smith are nickel and I really like it. A bit of Flitz makes clean-up a lot easier also.

I never liked them either and then was searching for 4 inch 19's and both are Nickle. One is like new the other close. What's best way to take care of it?
Beautiful gun.

ren wax. wipe on sparingly, buff off immediately. Don't let the price put you off. Do a search here.

I have a Nickel 29-2 from the same time frame 1973 with Rosewood Grips
I think the Rosewood compliments the Nickel.
It is a fine shooter as well.

Beautiful gun! I am 61, and never owned a nickel gun. I too have always had blue & stainless. My shooting buddy has a beautiful nickel 19 that is pretty much a safe queen. If the right nickel gun comes around, may have to try it! Bob

My wife has been a good sport but this is actually model 29 number 12. Not sure she is going to bite on me needing all of them in nickel now. That does not mean I'm not going to try though.

Is that the one that was in a box, and came out of Chandler, AZ? If so, I was watching it, too, but saw that the price was out of my budget. Beautiful gun...I'm jealous.

Back in the early seventies I bought a 4" and an 8 3/8" nickel 29-2's. Still have "em". Although I have blue & stainless I prefer the nickel finish over all the others. Enjoy that gun!

That is very nice. Congrats. I've owned several firearms and all were blued. I've liked the look of nickeled guns but have always been concerned about maintaining them. For some reason I feel the finish is less robust than blued or stainless.
