Default Model 60 SS

I am new to the forum. I inherited a model 60 SS, .38, 2". It was unfired at the time. SN is 447xxx. I shot a box of 20 target loads out of it. It a good shooter. I have the box, papers and cleaning kit and original purchase receipt from 1967. Condition is perfect except for light line on cylinder. I don't use it and was considering selling it. Can anyone give me a value.

Is it polished brightly, like nickel? I believe the earliest ones were. I think they also had true stainless triggers.

First, welcome to the best gun forum I've found, from an old guy in Louisville.

The 60 is a fine little revolver, excellent for concealed carry. Unless you have a comparable J-frame already, you might want to consider keeping it.

I consider myself prejudiced in this matter. I clearly remember the 1970s when the "antis" tried to ban all snub nose revolvers, even high quality Colts and Smiths, as Saturday Night Specials. By dint of much hard work, we were able to prevent this. No telling when this will recur.

Your Model 60 is perhaps the finest snub revolver made. In the late 60s/early 70s, it was THE primo gun. If you own it legitimately, I would keep it. Concealable guns may again become hard to obtain and you own the best.

Tom, Welcome to the forum from Florida's Gulf Islands. Just keep the gun. As to a value, well, snubbies are getting a bit of a premium these days. With box and all papers, I'd give you about $750.00 for it. What did you think of the gun when you fired it ?

Ditto on all the "keep that snubbie" advice. My 60-7 s/s is, among all my collection, my preferred carry. Particularly considering that I live in South Florida. I carry it in a pocket holster that fits perfectly inside a pants pocket. Keep it, for all the reasons adduced above.

Welcome to the FORUM, from Ohio! You may find out that if you get rid of the 60 some kicking yourself in the rear end may be in order. You will also have the task of finding another that nice. But what do I know? Enjoy it for now! Bob

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on owning a ground breaking revolver! These were the first commercially successful firearms to be produced in Stainless Steel and hold a special place in the hearts of us old fart LEO types. They are perfect for deep concealment and are highly resistant to rust and wear. That is specifically why they were produced!

If your revolver is in good shape it will probably sell in the 4-500 dollar range (that's what I'd pay anyway), unless it is a very early, first run revolver. Then it could command a premium from a Jframe collector.

If it's as described, I can't imagine it staying for sale more than one or two minutes at $400.

I think a more honest price, nowadays, would be $500 to $600, and maybe even more.
