Has there been or is there a S&W Model 48 .22 magnum thread/info source that someone can direct me to...?

In the market for a Model 48.

Blood damage on the side plate. There was a spot like this under the barrel too.
I owned one, a 48-2, I think, six years ago. I paid $107.00 for it, as it was a former LE evidence gun. The gun needed refinishing, I disliked the 8 3/8" barrel, and already had a S&W 650 so I sold the 48 to a neighbor. He sent it back to the factory and had it nickeled. He did change the stocks to factory combats to fit his hands.

what are the 8 3/8 barreled 48's going for? i have a nice example with a period correct box that i traded for. really just wanted the gun and didn't care what the value was at the time. i have since learned that it may be worth way more than the trade!

The basics are that they came in 4", 6" and 8 3/8" barrel lengths. The first guns were produced in the late 1950's. Some came with additional .22lr cylinders. 6" are the most common. The long tube guns get the most out of the .22wmr cartridge and balance better than you would think. Oh BTW the model 48 is built on the K frame, there were other guns made on the smaller J frame.

I think you will love a 48 when you get one. I lucked into this 48-4 for $500 early this year. Nelson Ford went through it and I really like the gold dot he added. I have a set of Target Grips on order for it and it will be perfect.

I have a Model 48 six inch that I paid a whopping $250.00 in the late 1990s. It was in like new condition, sans Box, tools and papers. I was considered the Dirty Harry of the Texas Panhandle with it on the Field with the Jack Rabbits. "Do You Feel Lucky, Well Do You, BUGS"

It's just a K22 with a bigger bark and a nice bite.

I have a M48 8 3/8 that's super accurate with the 40 or 50 grain rounds not so good with the lighter weight CCI stuff.
Gave 800$ for it a couple of years ago with box papers and a second set of grips.

I really wanted one and was out bid by some one with the name, "bust them" on a Ohio auction site. Went looking, well I paid $900.00 for a dash-4 in the box, like new from a guy in Virginia. I think that the 8 3/8 barreled are the premium length barrel for the 48's. It is a dream, very happy, money is for food, home, and Smith&Wesson.
