Model 10 Round Butt No Dash
Spotted a Model 10, no dash, round butt, diamond in the center grips, in around 95%+ condition a pawn shop today. Could have bought it for $450 out the door but didn't. Would that have been a good deal?

Around here .38's generally don't move very well; I'd have offered $400, but still would've bought it if they remained firm, (provided I could justify another Model 10 to myself).

I agree . . . a fair price . . . and a very desirable configuration.
Here's a similar model 10 round butt but in slightly less than 95%. There was a batch in this C51X,XXX - C52X,XXX s/n range that were made for the U.S. Air Force and would have "U.S." on the backstrap. Mine doesn't have it . . . does yours?

It is still at the pawn shop but I don't think it did. If it is still there tomorrow you may see some pics here soon.

You don't mention the barrel length. The 2" will bring much more than the 4".

While I agree with SP about the 2" RB being more desirable, I would prefer the 4".

Though the 2" may be more desirable, to some, the 4" round butt model 10 no dash is a LOT more uncommon, therefore more desirable to others. It is probably worth a little bit more than the asking price, if in decent condition. You would be wise to pick that one up. Time to test you negotiating skills!

The value of Smiths in the proper condition will increase in value. If you feel it is high now, you won't think so later! Good luck! Let us know how you did. Bob

Does that 95% include a mechanical assessment?

Here are the pictures. Apparently I need a new prescription for my glasses. It is not a "no dash". It is a dash 5.

Thank you! The first thing I noticed in your pictures was the left hand threads, and thought "that cannot be a no-dash gun." Then I saw your text correction.
Still a very nice buy. We almost never see the round butt 4" Model 10 up here. I'd have pulled out my money clip as soon as I saw that one. Not a bad price at all, in my opinion. Great acquisition.

Also, with those stocks it would be a fairly early -5. I assume it has a C prefix serial number?

Yes, S/N is C691XXX. I was told they had the gun for about 2 months, I am surprised it hadn't sold before I got there. But then they were asking $575. Anybody wanna buy a nice Model 10-5 round butt? :-)

For $450 I'm pretty sure I would have jumped on it. Let us know if you want out from under it.

Oh yeah. I own three of them that I have bought from Bud's. I'm hoping they get in more of the 3 inch barreled ones. I'll buy two next time...
Nothing like the trigger on an old S&W!!!

Some thing I'm missing is a round butt m10 or pre m10. And a 2" barreled version.
And that is a nice one Yoters.

I bought about a month ago a Model 10-5 with the 4 inch thin barrel .38 special. Mine is chromed it's not a round butt. I really like the thin barrel model 10's did S&W ever make a Model 13/65 thin barrel .357?

If you change out the grips for something else, pls. save those RB diamonds. They are getting hard to find in really pristine condition.

Like Ken said, in your original description of the gun (no dash) it would be a very good deal. As an early -5 I think you still did good. Are those stocks numbered to the gun? Another sweet M&P.

The 13/65's are by description heavy barrel guns. If tapered barreled guns out there they would be rare.
