Default Modified 10-6

went to my LGS today and spotted a highly modified 10-6. It looks to me like a competition gun. It has been converted to DOA only and is smoother than any other S&W I have checked, the pinned barrel is slab sided and on top is a full length sight made by Aristocrat. The workmanship is top notch and the gun itself is in very good condition. Yes it has been shot a lot, but lock up is like a typical S&W. Serial # D633291. what is this and what is it's value?

Probably a PPC competition revolver. Sounds like what they did a lot in the early-mid 70s. No idea on value - depends on a lot of stuff that is out of my skill set. Photos will be pretty much essential.

Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like a PPC (Pratical Police Competition) revolver. Lots of Model 10s were converted for this sport.

I myself think that these guns are neat. I would not have the answer on value. You can search on G.B. for like guns that sold. I have been tempted to buy 1 myself a few times, and I really don't know how to tell if the gun is RIGHT or not. Bob

This is a M10-6 I picked up, It has a Ron Power Custom job on it and I believe was built for minor power pin shooting. Not sure though I didn't get any paperwork with it. More pics over in the Modified gun thread,

Is it a 10-6 in .38 or .357? That would have some bearing on the value. The modifications make the value kind of iffy. If a buyer wants that type of revolver, it might be worth a little more. An unmodified model .38 will be worth much less than the .357 Magnum model which became the model 13. Those modifications generally don't enhance the value, and may even hurt it. The condition also plays a huge role in the value. Someone else can value the gun. Since it's not my taste, I wouldn't buy it at any price.

Hmmm, a value on that one is a little hard to nail down. The highest value would come from a dedicated PPC shooter and the lowest would come from just a person wanting a typical Factory M10. While they are not seen every day there have been many that have had this modification for PPC shooters. Sorry I can't be more specific about what it's worth but condition and quality of work and craftsmanship would also come onto determining value.
