Model 66 stainless rear sight
Not wanting to hijack the other thread, did S&W put stainless rear sights on the early 2.5" barrel guns?

Well I also see where one can buy the stainless sights from time to time.
I'm just wondering if the factory ever did it?

I have an early 66 no dash with the stainless rear sight, gun came from S&W that way.
Gun has never been fired sense it left the factory.

It's a 4 inch, next time my daughter comes over I'll have her snap and post a picture of it for me.
When it comes to posting pictures I'm a real dummy.

I have a 4" SS sighted 66 as well.
My question was directed at the 2.5" barreled models only.

If you go to the last page of the Ultimate 19/66 Combat Magnum Thread, about mid way you will see my 66 no dash, 2.5", with SS rear sights, and a letter from S&W stating that the SS rear sight and RR front sight are correct for this gun.

While the only absolute rule with S&W is there are no absolute rules with S&W I am still a bit skeptical because while early 4" Model 66 and Model 67 are posted with regularity with SS rear sites ...To date I have only seen that one (1) snub 66 with a SS rear site,
IIRC the plain SS sites transitioned to a blackened SS unit marked with the letter "S" underneath around the time the snub 66 was introduced and although blackened those S marked sites are SS .
Until I see another Model 66 snub with a SS rear site I remain a bit skeptical that the black coating was either removed or coated to appear SS sometime in its life, (BTW Model 66, 19 and 15 snub rear sites are slightly longer than those on 3" and longer versions so cannot swap rear sites without being noticed).
ANYBODY else have a snub 66 with a SS rear site in the raw ?
