Default The .357 Magnum Model 10 gets tested

To refresh recollections, these were the prior threads:

Model 10-6 .357 Magnum

Model 10-6 .357 Magnum - quick range report

So, over the weekend I took the Model 10 .357 Magnum and a SIG SP-2022 to my local range for the purpose of practicing for my re-certification as a CHL Instructor (Instructors have to pass proficiency tests on revolvers and pistols). Not having fired either of these two handguns much I didn't want to take the test cold.

Long story made short, I told the range guys my plan, they said go shoot some and if I'm comfortable they'll test me right away. Okay, I do that, I find that I am shooting both well, so I report back and off we go. I was quite happy to score nearly perfect with the SIG but this is about that Model 10.

Using FMJ range ammunition in .38 Special, out of the first 200 points I had 200 points. It's an easy test, I promise you, but, still, it's nice to clean the target at the close in 3 and 7 yard distances before you move to 15 yards. Still not long range shooting but 45 feet with fixed sights will get your attention, especially with older eyes. This old Model 10 is smooth, it has a standard, unmodified trigger that operates exactly the way I like, I can set it up before I press it off, even under time constraints.

Texas CHL rules do not permit the reporting of actual scores, just pass or fail, to avoid silly cross-examinations from lawyers in any litigation arising from a shooting. To respect that I'll leave out the final score I achieved but suffice it to say it was better than what I scored with the SIG.

I like that gun ever more now than before - SWEET SHOOTER!!!!

I don't know how many 357 Magnum 10-6 revolvers were made before the switched to calling them Model 13. They must be fairly rare because I haven't seen one around here in quite a while. It is good to see that it is still being used and enjoyed.

Texmex, I was told in my earlier discussions on the subject that the NYPD ordered 1200 and that they made around 3000 in total.

Ditto for the Model 64 .357 guns made in the early '70s. One was my last issued revolver in the late '80s. Sadly disposed of without an opportunity to buy it...

They were made for NYSP, not NYPD. None were agency marked.

One of my fellow officers had one. When he left the PD I bought it from him. It was marked 10-6 overstamped 13-1. I wish I still had it.
