can anyone help me find out exactly what my gun is and how old it is
I just got a Smith & Wesson .357 magnum. mod. 66-2. It has a S with a C right over it with E4. Serial # is ACV 94 74, which matches the butt of the gun. Couldnt see it there until I took the wooden handles off. It has a 4" barrel and is stanless steel. But on the right side of the grip with handle off it has a N inside a triangle on the right and a Z inside circle on the left, with the numbers 07566 in between them. it is a 6 shooter and has 4 screws. If there is anything else I can do to help this process please let me know. I have posted this a couple times but am new to the Smith and Wesson and it has been in my family a long time and look to pass it down to my son one day. I am posting some pics with this. Thanks.

I think ACV indicates late 1983, maybe early 1984 manufacture. Others here may have a more precise dating.

The only numbers and letters that matter are the serial number. Everything else are factory assembly number that mean nothing once the gun leaves the factory. You are looking at a date of about 1983.

Your family heirloom is the Model 66-2 "Combat Magnum" .357 Magnum/.38 Special caliber double action revolver based on Smith & Wesson's medium "K" size frame and manufactured of stainless steel Circa 1983 by the serial number.
There has been a vast quantity of information posted on the model 66 in various threads here on the forum. Use the "search" feature to find them.
In the opinion of many on these boards, your revolver is about the best overall compromise between weight, barrel length, size, caliber and durability. I myself have a 66-2 made about a year after yours.

For future reference, the Model 66 was never made in the 4 screw configuration. Introduced in 1970, it missed that era by about a decade.
The 4 screw K frame guns had three in the sideplate and one in front of the trigger guard. Yours lacks the latter. I imagine you were counting the strain screw on the front strap of the grip frame. That one puts tension on the mainspring and is never counted as a frame screw.
Your Model 66 has a three screw frame.
Stick around here. You will learn a ton of interesting facts!
