Model 10-6 HB With Mystery Grips
Been looking for a nice Heavy Barrel Model 10 and found this one locally. It was manufactured in 1977 and is in excellent condition. It came from the safe of a deceased rancher who carried it when riding around his ranch. The grips that came on it are a mystery to me. They are Safariland Grips and feel great in my hand but I have no other information on them. Can anyone comment on their vintage or approximate date of manufacture?

While the grips are branded "Safariland" they were made by Rogers in the mid-80's. He liked Hogue's style, but they didn't feel quite right to him, so he made his own with a slightly altered style.
I have a set on a 4" 624
Adios,
Pizza Bob

I just acquired the same mdl 10 & tried many different grips before deciding on a similar looking pair but they were made by Hogue. I like them.

Thanks Pizza Bob. I'm not familiar with Rogers from the mid-80's but I sure do appreciate the information. Yours look great. Did you put that beautiful finish on yours or did they come that way?

Rogers is Bill Rogers. He partnered with quite a few gun accessory companies other than Safariland. I have a Rogers Plaxco holster for a 5" 1911 and a bunch of Wilson/Rogers 1911 magazines - which today are simply Wilson Combat magazines. He is still around. I believe that his latest endeavor is an AR stock: Rogers Shooting School - Reactive Shooting Training.
The grips come that way - you do realize that they are plastic, don't you? Rogers called them Birlwood - I suppose the intentional misspelling was his "out" for anyone who bought them thinking they were wood. I think they are pretty neat and was really happy when I found a set for my 624. Enjoy yours - nice looking model 10HB, BTW.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

Rogers grips
I've got I think 3 sets square & 1 set round butt. Wood looks better but these fit my hand very good. Last pair I bought were on ebay about $25.00. Had them on my 1st Smith a 19-4 that I foolishly got rid of before I knew better. I have since corrected that.

I used them extensively on my duty guns back in the late 80's and early 90's. They fit my hand well and it didn't matter if they got wet, dinged up up, etc.
