Model 28 worth?
This piece is part of a local online auction, these are the only pictures I have. In your opinions, what is the highest I can go sight unseen?

A couple so-so pictures and no other information's too little to go on in my book, but if you like to gamble...
Assuming it's all original, there's some finish and stock wear quite noticeable in the snaps; none of it appears excessive, but you've got a shooter there, nothing more. If the mechanical condition matches the cosmetic condition, it's an NRA "very good" at best.
It's a little older as indicated by the diamond magnas -- again, if they're original; might even make it an "S" serial number rather than "N", which ups value a touch, but not much in shooter shape.
I still advise against buying based on two average pics and nothing else, but otherwise, I'd gamble over no more than $500 for it and hope for the best.
Model 28s are going up in price and becoming a touch harder to find, especially in the last two to three years. However, there are still many out there in great shape at decent prices with just a little looking.

Assuming the diamond magnas are original, It's probably an S serialed gun and maybe an early gun. With the cosmetic issues and not know what the timing, lockup, and cylinder gap looks like, I don't think I'd spend a dime over $350. IMO

There seems to be some holster wear on the muzzle end of the barrel and maybe some on the front edge of the cylinder. There is a turn line on the cylinder. In today's market which is booming in gun sales again plus the shorter barrel is more desirable to many I'd say $500/$600 tops less is better. Make sure they offer the three day non fire inspection and your money back if your not happy with your purchase.

I just ran one on GB this week.
Very clean 4" and it pulled $515.00.
As a side note, it sold to one of our forum
member's.
I know there are exceptions but S&W prices IMHO have leveled
off in my part of Texas.
Current best sellers are 2.5 inch 19's and 66's.
4" N frames (boxed) are still good.
I just picked up a crisp nickel 19-4 4" for $525 on the GB auction.
60 Days ago that gun would have likely brought $600.00+

28
28-2WOOD.jpgI would contact the seller and set up a FTF to look it over.
You say it is local correct?
Next choice is ask the seller more questions and for more pics.
I recently picked up a great 28-2 on here with no photo.
I just trust the members here to be honest , so didn't hesitate. If I had it would have been gone.
That being said , it depends on your wallet.
I added the grips to my find.

I found a nice one on GB last month which came with orig. box and papers (even a copy of original receipt) for $580. It was local, so I didn't have to pay shipping or ffl fees. I bought from original owner from 1980.
That said, I don't think I'd pay more than $450 for one in the condition we see in your pics.

Sight unseen that's a $450 gun, with a 3 day inspection period. Otherwise I would pass. It would make a great shooter though!

I have bought about a dozen guns on G.B. I for the most part have been happy. A couple from Guns America. I don't know about the site you are referring to. I picked up my 28, 6" no dash with goodyears on G.B. for $450. I have been very happy with it. Bob

Its been 2 years since I bought my 28-2 off GB. It matches the condition of the one shown in Florida Guys photo. I paid $425 back then. Keep looking for a better condition 28--they are out there--unless a shooter is all you want. That being said-in today's market the one you're looking at probably around $400.

An in hand inspection for touch ups of the finish and mechanicals should be in order. If it is all original it could bring $550+. I do love the early HP's. Good luck.
