S&W Model 68-1
I'm trying to find out what the manufacture dates are of this gun. Also what would be the estimated value. This baby has been hiding in a gun case for the last 25+ years and hardly been shot if at all. The ex-step mom can't give up any of those secrets anymore.
This is chambered in 357. This was never issued to the police. It is a double action.
SN ADE2609
And some more Numbers.

That is a mdl.681. Standard Catalog of S&W says at least one mdl.681
is stamped 68-1. This is what a mdl.68-1 looks like.

It looks like the OP has a treasure. I wonder what it is worth to the collectors of mis-stamped S&Ws? Way to go! The ex-mother-in-law may have done the OP a real favor by hiding away that handgun for all those years. ............. Big Cholla

As vrichard notes, that's a mis-stamped 681. SCSW dates it to 1983.
Do you still have the original box, tools and papers, or is it gun alone?
If alone and in the condition described -- which sounds like an NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards "excellent" or "perfect" but would have to be inspected by someone who knows what to look for to be sure -- that's around a $600 to $700 sold price these days, with the occasional outliers in both directions.
Add anywhere from $50 to $100 if you have all the factory accoutrement...

I have a Model 581 that is also mis-stamped as a 58-1. I am the original owner and sure wish I had kept the original box....when I was younger, boxes did not seem to be that important. Lesson learned!

In my s/n collection I have a ADE29XX that shipped Aug 16, 1984. It was also a M681, 4", SB, product code 104102, and left the factory in the "new" style one piece box.
A misstamped like that is an interesting curiosity, but in my view it doesn't necessarily translate to a big price bump. I think it would sell in the range of any similar condition M681-0, probably $550 to $650 retail.

True...misstamps are fun curiosities but I've never seen one get a higher price.
